A Contract For Christian Men’s Discipleship Groups

Men’s Group Discipleship Goals:

1) Affirmation: Encouraging one another, building one another up in Christ as we cannot do this Christian thing alone.

2) Availability: Group members should be reliable and be available to each other. They need to strive to be consistent in attendance and communicate if they will not be able to make it.

3) Prayer: Pray before, during, and after our Bible study.  Prayer encourages members to be humble.  We need to spend less time (talking) about one another, and more time (praying) for each other.

4) Openness: Sharing feelings, struggles, joys, and pain.  A desire for authentic relationship and discipleship.

5) Honesty: The desire to be honest with each other is critical in authentic relationships even if the issue at hand is embarrassing.

6) Safety: Honest, open relationships must be guarded with an agreement of safety, which means that what is said in the group must remain confidential, and differing opinions must be respected.  The Word of God must not be corrupted either, meaning we strive to interpret the Word of God as it was originally meant to be interpreted.

7) Confidentiality: As mentioned in the value of safety, we must not gossip and must adhere to the scripture “ In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15

8) Sensitivity: A commitment to sensitivity to the needs, feelings, backgrounds, and current situations of other group members will help build relationships within the group.

9) Accountability: In authentic relationships, accountability is voluntary submission to other group members for support, encouragement, and help in particular areas of your life that you are struggling with.

10) Evangelism: Expanding the community of believers through such things as sharing your faith, and leading by example.

11) Multiplication: Having the group grow, and eventually multiply with the intent of making more and better disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord.

12) Service: Serving God in the Church which we attend, and serving God in the community which we live.

13)  Submission: We submit to the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we will show respect to whoever is teaching the lesson or praying by listening to what they are saying and avoiding constantly checking our text messages and Facebook Status.

I, ____________________________, am making a commitment to attend this bible study for the next 3 months unless an emergency situation comes up that prevents me from coming. I will do my best to come on time and with a heart willing to listen and learn.  If during the week I feel tempted to sin, I will ask my Bible Study brothers for help and for their prayers.  I will give this Bible Study my best and abide by the 13 rules mentioned in this agreement to the best of my ability.
