5 Reasons To Read My Recommended Book List

Why my book list and not thousands of other book lists available on the internet?  That’s a good question.  I would hope that since you are at my website you know me personally, or at least know who I am so perhaps you want to know what I think?  Plus I am always available to respond to your questions whether they be through email, the WordPress comment section, Facebook, or in person.    Truth is, I would never lead my friends astray spiritually and I have a heart to help people.  That said, here are 5 reasons why you should check out my recommended book list:

1)      The books are resources for your benefit.  I will not be recommending books outside of the Christian context.  Occasionally really good books come out about Navy Seals, Politicians, Economics, History, etc.  My book list will never include any of these titles.  It isn’t because I consider those books to be unimportant (I read many of them personally) it’s because the general theme of my website is Christianity specifically, and I want to stick to that.

2)      The books are (in my opinion) doctrinally sound.  I will not be recommending books I do not own or have not looked at personally to verify the veracity of the information being presented.  If you are like me, you have gone to your local Christian book store and been bombarded with shelves full of self help books and “how to better yourself” manuals.  Many of these titles are put out by prosperity gospel people who either want your money or want to teach you how to make money (so you can send it to them). Or they simply want to get rich off of you buying their book.  The books on my list aren’t like that.  They are about Jesus, the Gospel, marriage, raising children, ministry work, and a variety of other topics related to Christianity.

3)      The books are practical (meaning they are easy to understand and not overly academic.) While there may be some commentaries on Bible books that are very academic, those recommendations are usually only for people who are teachers anyway.  All of the books I recommend will be at a level most everyone is comfortable reading. I try to select books that are interesting, present new ideas, tell you things you haven’t read before, etc.  I try to stay away from dry, boring content.  For that you will have to read my blog posts 🙂

4)      We learn by reading, so my goal is to encourage you to read! If you feel stuck in your walk with the Lord, I encourage you to start learning more about Him.  The Bible will always be the first book I will recommend to any Christian.  Spend the money to buy a Bible that you are comfortable reading.  Add some books to your Christmas/birthday wish list and get back into reading.  Knowledge will change your life.  The more you read the more intelligent you will become, I promise!

5)      The list will be updated as new (or new to me) books come out .  The list isn’t exhaustive as I don’t want it to be ridiculously long. If I were to add every book I own to the list, or simply surf around the amazon.com bookstore adding titles arbitrarily, you would lose interest due to the ridiculous size of the list.  I keep the list fairly short, trying to stay under 10 recommendations per category (besides my classic section, which will continue to grow.)

Now go order some books, get off my website, and read!  God bless.

Joel Osteen is a charlatan, and a deceiver. Nothing he says, in my opinion draws us closer to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He’s about as closes to God as Oprah.
